Gas Mechanical Joints – Durable and Anti-Corrosion Joints

Mechanical Gas Joint

Overview

While it is common to connect steel pipes by threading them and using threaded joints, there’s a potential for loss of strength due to the reduction in thickness caused by the threading. Additionally, there’s a risk of corrosion due to the exposure of the ferrous base at the threaded areas. Gas Mechanical Joints, on the other hand, use specialized joining materials that fit onto the pipe, eliminating the need to thread the steel pipes and compensating for the weaknesses of threaded connections. Furthermore, they maintain sealing properties up to an internal pressure of 0.3MPa and ensure flexibility up to ±3 degrees.

Features

SGM Joint

The SGM joint is primarily intended for buried pipes. Not only can it join steel pipes, but it can also be used to connect anti-corrosion steel pipes.

It eliminates the weaknesses of threaded connections, offers good sealing and expandability, has high pull-out resistance, and facilitates joining with SGP steel pipes and resin-lined steel pipes (PLP steel pipes).

  • Good workability
  • Zinc-plated specification
  • Good expandability of the pipe

Structure

The SGM joint consists of:

  1. Body
  2. Press wheel
  3. Rubber gasket
  4. Retainer
  5. Ball band
  6. Insulating ring

Sizes from 25A to 40A are externally threaded, while sizes 50A and 100A are internally threaded. However, for SGP steel pipes, the insulating ring (item 6) is not necessary.

Currently, it is mainly used for temporary piping.

Applicable Pipe Types

The SGM Joint can be used for connections with SGP pipes (white pipes) and PLP pipes (double-layer pipes).

HGM Joint

The HGM (House Gas Mechanical) joint is designed for indoor overhead piping and is equipped with fire-resistant packing. Its fundamental joining method is the same as the SGM joint, but it can only connect steel pipes. Moreover, it has been made fire-resistant to prevent gas leaks during a fire and can handle unforeseen fires.
